In Loving Memory:

Highfields Wayward Wind  CD

11-29-2001 to 6-8-2011

  • My beloved Spats has gone to join his father, Badger, at the Rainbow Bridge. Seeming so strong and healthy to me, Spats went off his food for a few days. Since he was a voracious eater I knew something was wrong but I did not expect it to be fatal. As it turns out, after doing bloodwork and xrays  we discovered he was loaded with cancer and bleeding out internally from hemangiosarcoma (cancer of the spleen, which spreads rapidly to the heart, lungs and liver). Once they start to bleed out they go quickly, so after time for a brief good bye, he was put to rest.

  • Spats didn't accomplish anything spectacular in his brief lifetime. He was pointed as a puppy, but grew to exactly 16" so I stopped showing him. He earned a CD with nice scores and placements, but I never went any further even though he had the best attitude of any dog I've ever titled (including my OTCh dog). He only produced 4 litters with one UKC Champion, and some other very lovely and loved pets. But mostly he was just a good guy. Always there. My friend, my companion.

Rest well sweet Spats. You are loved and missed.

"Spats" (ptd)

Spats is a Badger son out of VanKrols Showcase Signature,  a CH Golden Hylites The Phantom daughter. He was co-bred by Linda Vanderlaan and myself.

Spats has a delightful personality and loves the whole world. He was pointed as a puppy but grew to 16" (still in size but on the border and I feel too risky to show) so I started training him in obedience.

In his first weekend of Obedience trials he earned two legs toward his CD, with a score of 195 1/2 and second place. We took a couple of months off because of a litter of puppies and finally in June he finished his title with another 195 1/2 and first place. So now we get to start training for Open. Unfortunately, since I have previously finished an OTCh, I have to show in the "B" classes, so our work is cut out for us.

He is an enthusiastic, fun dog to train and a fun dog to live with. In limited use he is the sire of a UKC Champion.
